Farmhouse, Westport, CT

Farmhouse, Westport, CT

Architecture: Pierpont Design Services

The design for this classic farmhouse included a "bridge" to connect the main house to an existing barn structure that was to be turned into a finished space. Living space was added to the rear of the house, including a new master suite and reconfigured bedrooms for the children.

The theme for the interior design of this new construction residence was "renovated Georgian manor," which created an interesting contrast between the traditional exterior and contemporary interiors. The client's budget and adventurousness allowed the design team to explore new territory, such as the master bedroom fireplace surround with floor to ceiling three-dimensional geometric pattern fabricated from marble, the leather-paneled library with modeled steel over mantel, and the beautiful master closet with glass-paneled cabinetry.

This ranch renovation in the woods of Wilton was incredibly fun to be part of. The client needed more space for their growing family but did not want to sacrifice the opportunity to design something special. This allowed us to explore whimsical details not usually present in the average renovation project.

The Hygeia House has a long history on Block Island. After many lives serving various functions such as a doctor's office, staff quarters, and an inn for summer visitors, my team was tasked with transforming the structure into a grand summer residence. The floor plan was opened up, and bedroom spaces reconfigured to take advantage of the nearly 360-degree views available on the site. An open, modern kitchen was added to the first floor, with large French doors opening up to the outdoor porch space. We also added two-story porches on three sides of the house, and reintroduced a cupola, part of the original structure but long since demolished, that truly offered 360-views of the island.

A small site can be a challenge. That and zoning restrictions steered the design direction toward retaining the main cape cod structure, and adding a modern glass room to increase the living area and transition to the more contemporary outdoor space.

Builder: Hallmark Associates / Barry Ertelt

This Lake Como-inspired house, built into a ridge rising out of the Long Island Sound, was a challenging space for interior design. Originally intended to be a summer getaway, the spaces our team created transformed into a year-round destination (and inadvertently a retreat during the CPVID-19 pandemic). Our adventurous client was open to exploring new ideas. This allowed us to explore interesting details, such as a curving Chinese Chippendale railing at the main stair.
